Health Care Passes

I won't debate about whether or not the new health care reform is good or bad, but I will say the republicans have been BIZARRE this whole time.

If you disagree with it, fine. But what the hell is this "OH MY GOD! HE WANTS FREE HEALTHCARE FOR THE POOR! OBAMA IS A COMMUNIST!" or "OBAMA WANTS TO MAKE IT HARDER TO GO AGAINST DO NOT RESUSCITATE ORDERS AND LIVING WILLS! HE WANTS TO KILL OLD PEOPLE! HE'S A NAZI!"

This kind of McCarthy bullshit isn't helping anything. If you disagree with it, disagree with it. Fine. But disagree like a sane, rational person.

Sadly, the Republican Party seems to keep moving further and further in that direction. The more they ally themselves with the most extreme members of their party (in order to increase fund-raising and votes), the less they seem to have any kind of rational discussions about anything (or, for that matter, to have any soft of actual platform).

Everything they do now seems to be for no purpose except to (a) make sure that President Obama fails and (b) try to regain power. They no longer seem to actually stand for anything (although they're certainly against a lot of things).

Best part? They are doing this AFTER they spent EIGHT YEARS claiming that anyone who disagreed with Bush was am unamerican, terrorist-loving, democracy-hating unpatriotic communist who should go back to Russia and who doesn't support your troops and hates freedom.

Which has actually lead to their current stance of saying the 'democratic process is totalitarian'.... with their most glaring error being that they have absolutely NO idea what a totalitarian dictatorship really is. And they have been oblivious (maybe deliberately so?) to the fact that their tactics are an attempt to bring a totalitarian Repugnican oligarchy to the US.... under the guise, of course, of being 'patriotic'.

And as another pet peeve: Can people STOP using "Communist" as a catchall word to mean dictatorial, fascist, or as a way to describe any hostile government takeover please?

It's like the princess bride. "You keep using that word. I don't think it means what you think it means."
