crowwitch: (Spanking Tinkerbelle)
Yesterday was a fun day. I must have the Luck of the Irish.

Mom stayed home from work because she's been having cold/flu symptoms, so she and I bummed around the house most of the morning and afternoon, did some light cleaning and stuff... I'm getting my room dug out, can you believe it?

The reason I'm boxing up my room is because I'm getting new bedroom furniture. It's from the 30'. We went to the Antique store to make the last payment and arrange a delivery. Luckily, it's not for another two weeks, so I've got PLENTY of time to finish getting ready... taking things out of my desk drawers off my shelves etc.

I found an old Irish-American badge for three dollars, I think it's from the 60's, and got it too while we were there.

All of the Irish pubs in town were crowded shoulder-to-shoulder with college students drunk on green beer so mom and I went to Cafe Americano. The restraunt was abandon because everyone was in the bar so we had the place to ourselves while we enjoyed thier Irish specials and Guiness.

Corn beef and cabage and Irish stew. Squee!

Then we went to see a High School production of Peter Pan. Most of the time High School plays are physcially painful too watch, but this one was really good. They have a new theatre and a lot of nice lights and equipment and a professional fly-team.

The production looked good, and the cast was descent. They actually had a boy playing Peter, which took some getting used to. But he had a charming imp-ish quality and was quite athletic and (OMG) really did know how to fence, so it worked. He couldn't sing, sadly, and the songs were in a woman's key (Transposing isn't THAT hard, seriously people!) so his voice broke a lot and he had to kind of talk his way through a lot of it, and he swapped octives a lot during songs and his discomfort for the music would start to show whenever the song started, but you could forgive him.

He really did look like a real Peter Pan which was actually kinda neat.

The only REALLY weird thing was he appeared to be trying to copy Mary Martin's voice. It was funny because the effect was very, very, very gay.

So he's carrying on about living with the faries and how the lost boys are all alone with no girls and OH! the inuendo! But oh well... at least it was funny. And he really didn't do a bad job.

Overall it wasn't bad at all. The kid playing Hook was having a blast, Tiger Lily was a cute little minx, and it was fun to watch.

I still think the most beautiful theatre moment in any play ever is when Tinkerbell is dying and Peter tells the audience to clap their hands if they believe in faries and an entire audience, young and old grandparents and children all start clapping.

(I read that the first time it was performed at the turn of the century, they didn't know if that scene would work, or if the audince would clap or anything. On opening night the young woman playing Peter was so nervous, thinking her audience would think it was silly and having no idea what to do if no one clapped.

The HUGE wave of applause that filled the theatre was so overwhelming she had to run off the stage in tears she was so moved.)

This time, when the boy playing Peter ran to the front of the stage and said "Do you believe in faries?" a tiny tolder girl in the middle of the theatre yelled "I believe in faries!"

It was so absolutely touching and beautiful.

I love that play.

On the way home, we had Shamrock Shakes from McDonalds.

Diet my ass.

Though I have put back three lbs this week because I only exerscised on Monday instead of every day and was bad about eating.

Bad Allison.

Back to work.

I got the Rachel Brice Bellydance CD today. It's the best one I've seen so far.

I want to marry her.

I hope everyone else had a good St. Patrick's day.
