This Weekend

crowwitchWell yesterday, before the High School Musical incident, I got to go see the Matinee of The Nutcracker. It was a new production this year with new sets and costumes, set in Imperial Russia, with a Russian design theme to the costumes and sets. It was beautiful! It seemed to be a slightly more whimsical that the versions I've seen for the past few years, perhaps a little more geared towards children, with dancers in animal costumes and things like that. Sometimes it worked. I thought it was the most wonderful toy solder/mouse battle I'd seen. And sometimes it didn't; they marred my favorite part (the dance towards the beginning with Klara's clockwork dolls) with silly pantomime costume animals.
Still, on and all it was beautiful. I adore ballet.
Today was fun. The children did their Christmas program at the church where I work today, because it was a decorating program so they wanted to do it early so the decorations weren't up for just like, 5 days or something. And they asked me to sing, so I got to do "O Holy Night" in front of the congregation. I got a lot of complements and it's always good to sing in front of an audience.
But what got me hysterical was, I was in the nursery afterwords (I work there as the childcare provider) and one of the little girls wanted me to help her write a letter to one of her little friends. So, I'm dictating what she says to write, but I'm also chasing after 4 other children, so there's a lot going on and I'm only as committed to her dictations as I could possibly be and not ignore the others.
So, she's chattering on "And I want it to say I hope you feel better, and I hope you're having a good day and can come to school tomorrow and I hope you don't fall down again in the dark and hurt yourself and bleed and I hope that you can come over and play..." and so on.
And I look down at my paper and read.
"I hope you are feeling better. I hope you're having a good day and can come to school tomorrow. I hope you fall down in the dark and bleed."
It's such a good thing I didn't give that to a 5 year old.
