I know, I'm a freak but honestly? On it's own it's really sweet. I knew the song before I ever knew it in the film context. In context, there's a lot of black humor there, and the double layers to the lyrics and subtle dissonance in the counter melodies really make it a well written song.

So, honestly I feel kind of bad. What with Farrah dying and all that when they said Michael Jackson had gone to the hospital, I barely thought of it. My reaction was something to the tune of that he was always fainting, or falling off stage or going to the doctor or wandering around outside city all on a court date in his pajamas saying he was too ill to have his trial that day or WHATEVER and when I heard he went to the hospital and I just... Eh... he was only 50 after all. That's still young to drop dead unexpectedly.

But then, over the course of an hour the internet did something interesting. Some gossip and rumor tabloid webpages popped up, small, saying that he died at the hospital. Then, TMZ reported it. Then, some reputable news outlets reported that TMZ reported that he was dead and they were waiting for conformation. Interesting thing, Wikipedia put one of those "This article is about someone who has recently died..." tags up on his page, but nothing about his alleged death. Then, the headlines got bigger and bigger.

Then right there on MSN, The king of pop is dead.

It was actually a really interesting hour or so to be watching google and teh interwebs.

But it's sad. Actually, I've been saying for years that it was sad, because Michael Jackson's mental and emotional problems were apparently so out of hand, and he was so, so talented. I've thought that for a while, and now it's all kinda sadder.

To an awesome talent!

When your early albums are so awesome that even a child molestation trial and danging your kid off a balcony can't diminish them, you did SOMETHING right.
