I made something!
Oct. 22nd, 2005 01:49 amOk... I've been playing with the sewing machine my dad and stepmom gave me for a few months, usually with results that looked like C- Jr. High Home Ec. projects.
But I just finished making something that actually turned out!
Ok call me a loser but SQUEE! I'm getting better.
I did it right for once. And it even fits!
I finished the cute pesant blouse for my gypsy/tribal dancer costume for Halloween. It looks really good.
Ok, I learned my lesson. From now on, hand sew with a quick running stitch THEN do the nice stitching with the sewing machine and pull out the running stitch thread.
I'd been just pinning the peices together as I'd been taught in school when I took home ec to get out of PE. I learned it just doesn't give you the feel for how the pattern peices go to gether, and having to stop the machine to pull the pins out makes your guiding not come out as well.
I have learned the power of basting. I have converted.
All you crafty people on my friends page can laugh at me now and mock me.
But I DID IT! I made something wearable in public!
My halloween costume will be so cute.
I intend to practice a lot in the comming year and next year tackle the gorgeous Victorian gown pattern Simpllicity is pimping for next Halloween!
Purr... Victorian...
